Gift inscription to ffep. Charming B&W illustrations by Grace Lodge throughout. Includes two colourful fold-out tableaux of a village street with various traditional shops, one at the front and one at the back which, including the covers of the book make a continuous panoramic view measuring just over 61'' in total. Originally, it came with at least 4 little card figures, but these are not present. 2 children visit the fictional village of Hatherby during their holidays, and find out what is available in the various shops there. A very quaint glimpse of life in an English village in the 1930s/40s.

Hardcover. 8°. Original hard back cover, front cover and spine are illustrated in color. The cover is edge-bushed, scraped and stained on the back cover, the burst outer joints have been reglued. Around 60 unpaginated pages in extra large type, illustrated in color and monochrome. One page with missing upper corner, the edges were backed with acidic filmoplast, some image loss. Rear endpaper missing, front with previous owner's entry in ink. Cuts and a few page edges are slightly stained. Outside rather mediocre, inside still in good condition. --- Original-Pappband, Vorderdeckel und Rücken sind farbig illustriert. Der Einband ist randbestoßen, abgeschabt und am Hinterdeckel fleckig, die geplatzten Außengelenke wurden nachgeleimt. Pages are not numbered, they are bright and clean.At the front and back of the book there is a colour shaped card pull out of shops, each one around 23 inches long, these are complete but there is a little splitting of the illustration at one fold of the card but the card is sound, small closed tear to roof of one shop ,very small and no loss, tiny water stain to bottom left corner. Both pull outs are nice and bright. Outer illustrated boards are rubbed and worn on edges and spinewith webbing showing through in places on spine with some splitting, though binding is alittle loose the book is sound and holding. some light water staining marks to front board not greatly noticeable.
