Published with the assistance of the Getty Foundation in conjunction with the exhibition on Doin' It in Public: Feminism and Art at the Woman's Building, October 1, 2011 to January 28, 2012, organized by the Ben Maltz Gallery at Otis College of…Art and Design. Doin' It in Public: Feminism and Art at the Woman's Building comprises an exhibition, two scholarly publications, "Doing it in public: feminism and art at the Woman's Building' and 'From site to vision: the Woman's Building in contemporary culture,' and a series of public events that document, contextualize and pay tribute to the groundbreaking work of feminist artists and art cooperatives that were centered in and around the Los Angeles Woman's Building (downtown L.A.) in the 1970s and 1980s. Doin' It in Public is part of Pacific Standard Time: Art in LA 1945-1980, an unprecedented collaboration, initiated by the Getty, that brings together more than sixty cultural institutions from across Southern California for six months beginning October 2011 to tell the story of the birth of the L.A. art scene. Contact seller4-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. A Poor to Fair 12mo hardcover (1900 per the title page; 1901 per the publisher's copyright). NO dust jacket (if issued). Ex-school library pursuant to purple markings at the top of the front paste-down. Soiling and smudges throughout, but the contents (x + 72 pp., including 34 illustrations… after Gustave Dore) remain fully legible, complete, and securely bound. Light brown cloth with burgundy lettering and on the upper board. A crease in the lower board near the spine has caused a dramatic bowing/bulge in that board (and most of the pages), as well as a slanted spine. The covers are well rubbed in the extremities, have above average soiling, and have some faded staining from moisture exposure in the lower corners of both boards.
