Volume One features a critical history of the works of Albert Durer. This scarce work is noted for its use of ambitious hand coloured plates, and impressive chromolithographs, which had only been first patented less than ten years prior.Bound in half morocco with cloth to the boards. Externally, marks to the boards, staining to the spines, rubbing to the joints and extremities and small closed tears to the head and tails of the spines. Joints starting to 'Vol I'. 'St Helens free public library' labels to the front pastedowns with the odd stamp internally. Rear hinge weak to 'Vol II'.
