He is best known for his commands in the American War of Independence, particularly his victory over the French at the Battle of the Saintes in 1782. It is often claimed that he was the commander to have pioneered the tactic of breaking the line. Vol.I-1742-1763, pub. 2005, xiv, 540pp. Vol.II-1763-1780, pub. 2007, xii, 734pp. Blue buckram cloth boards with the Society's emblem in gilt to upper board and gilt lettering to spine.
