Included in this group are paintings by Breugel, Velasquez, Titian, Rembrandt and Durer. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 81 pages with B/W and full-colour illustrations. Text in English and French. Library book sale stamp on first page but no other ex-library markings. Otherwise in fine condition. The exhibition catalogue includes a chronology and letter excerpts. "This life, which came to an untimely end at 32, had yet been fully lived because it had borne the sign of death at an early stage. His was the work of a young expressionist of the post-war years, with all its anguish and all its moments of redeeming rapture. We still have two of Grammate's great idols and early promoters among us, who have kept his youthful message alive: Erich Heckel and Karl Schmidt- Rottluff. And, miraculously enough, I still possess the first issue of the album, Group of Graphic Artists and Collectors, which I published anonymously in 1921 together with another student. In addition to works of the artists of the Brucke, it contains Grammate's lithograph Listeners. How much of Grammate's work has, however, become dim in our memory and has been forgotten! It is the purpose of the present exhibitions in Canada and Germany to revive his image and to communicate it to a new generation." - foreword by Leopold Reidemeister.
