Sus fuentes se recogen en notas de esta lámina y de la tercera. En ellas se insiste en que este mapa es copia del que formó el piloto de la Real Armada Antonio Morata entre 1841 y 1851 para el gobierno de Su Majestad a mayor escala. Para su construcción tuvo en cuenta los trabajos de las comisiones hidrográficas de la armada, de las que el mismo Morata formaba parte, los archivos de la Capitanía General de las islas y los materiales existentes en la Dirección de Ingenieros. En la reducción y copia del mapa original, Coello utilizó además, las cartas publicadas por los Depósitos Hidrográficos de España, Francia e Inglaterra. Notas geográficas y estadísticas redactadas por Pascual Madoz".
