François Leuret (1797-1851) and Jean-Louis Lassaigne (1800-1859) highlight for the first time that the contact of an acid product with the mucosa of the duodenum triggers pancreatic secretion in dogs. In addition, this book is known for the error made about the nature of acid in gastric juice, which is not lactic but hydrochloric (based on researches by Prout and Tiedmann).
