Illustrated with seven full page plates, three of which are in color. This special limited edition was prepared from the first edition of 1868. First edition thus by the Classics of Medicine Library. The essays compiled herein represent the pioneering medical work performed by Dr. Addison at Guy's Hospital and include critical studies on adrenal disease (Addison's disease), anemia, tuberculosis and his famous work on the suprarenal capsules. Among other pathologies, he discovered Addison's disease (a degenerative disease of the adrenal glands) and Addisonian anaemia (pernicious anaemia), a haematological disorder later found to be caused by failure to absorb vitamin B12.
