Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the story of Marie-Marguerite Dufrost de Lajemmerais dYouville, founder of the Grey Nuns of Montreal. Born in 1701, she faced many hardships in her early life. Widowed at the age of 31, she dedicated her life to the service of the poor and needy. In 1738, she and four companions rented a house to receive the cityâs poor. Their charitable work expanded rapidly, and in 1747, she was asked to take charge of the cityâs General Hospital, which was on the verge of collapse. Under dYouvilleâs leadership, the hospital was transformed into a thriving institution that provided care for the sick, the aged, and the orphaned. In 1753, she and her companions received official recognition from King Louis XV, which established them as a formal religious community. She died in 1771, and her legacy continues to this day through the Grey Nuns, who care for the poor and sick in hospitals, schools, and other institutions around the world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
