Add to basketCondition: Good. Mid 20th century American copy of Doré's famous and iconic work. Illustrations cover both the Old and New Testaments. The first illustration is a symbolic representation of God in human form speaking the universe into existence from out of Eternity. The last print is a study of Saint John as he contemplates the end of time and return to Eternity - see relevant images. One page Introduction by the publisher, Sylvan Hoffman, dated April 15, 1951, New York. Under each full-page b/w engraved plate, there is a title, biblical caption and verse number (see example images). Condition (external): the card covers display some edgewear and creasing in places. There is also some fraying of the card at the head of the spine. Condition (internal): mild tanning, mainly confined to the page margins - images unaffected. The first twenty or so pages are bent/curled in the bottom right-hand corner - slightly dog eared too - (see image of the title page and the God in human form engraving referenced above). Unpaginated but c. 100 pages (guesstimate). 4to (just below due to width measurement).
