The author examines the characteristic lesions seen in the udders of infected cows, and compares the organism cultured from these lesions with those from animals inoculated with both human and avian strains of diphtheria. The text also discusses the mechanism and symptoms of transmission between hosts, the results of the author's post-mortem examinations, and the potential role of contaminated milk in the spread of infection. It concludes that while there is a strong possibility that cows can become active agents in the transmission of human diphtheria, further research is needed to establish exactly how.
