It was hand-set by Bram de Does himself in Jan van Krimpen's metal Romanée type and printed on his own Victoria platen press (under his private imprint, Spectatorpers). The book is a deeply personal essay where de Does defends his design o…f Trinité, famously describing his style as "systematisch slordig" (systematically sloppy)-a reference to the organic, lively, and slightly irregular rhythm he sought to bring to the digital and phototypesetting era. The book includes a technical type specimen section printed via offset by Jan de Jong. For a book designer, this is a "holy grail" book that captures the exact moment a master craftsman reconciled the rigid history of metal type with the "elastic" future of digital design. Of course, it's in Dutch and you probably won't be able to read it-but your phone can. Fine 306.
