Pocos meses después del fallecimiento de Jorge Juan Santacilia en Madrid, el 21 de junio de 1773, veía la luz la Breve noticia de la vida del Excmo. Sr. D. Jorge Juan y Santacilia, primera biografía del marino y científico alicantino escrita por su secretar…io personal Miguel Sanz, que apareció inserta en la reedición de las Observaciones Astronómicas y Phísicas hechas en los Reynos del Perú, publicadas en 1748, y en la que también se incluía un opúsculo inédito de Juan titulado Estado de la Astronomía en Europa. Con ocasión del tercer centenario del nacimiento del ilustre científico, celebrado en 2013, la Universidad de Alicante publicó la edición crítica de la Breve noticia precedida de un amplio Estudio Preliminar a cargo de Armando Alberola y Rosario Die. En este año 2023 se conmemoran los 250 años de la muerte de Jorge Juan, pero también de la aparición de la biografía que escribiera Miguel Sanz. Por ese motivo se publica esta segunda edición de la de 2013, corregida y mejorada, con la que la Universidad de Alicante se suma a los actos conmemorativos organizados en honor de Jorge Juan. LIBRO.
