This book is Reitz third, and final, volume of autobiography, following 'Commando, and 'Trekking on'. This book covers the period from the end of the First World was until 1943, shortly before he died in 1944. While the previous two volumes concentrated on military endeavours, this volume speaks more of South African politics in the 1920s and 1930, when he was deputy Prime Minister, it ends, with him once again engaged in war. The Foreword is by Jan Smuts, then Prime Minister of South Africa.
