Die Größen von ZnS konnten durch Änderung der Konzentration von 2-Mercaptoethanol (ME) verändert werden. Im Falle von CdS konnten die kubischen Zinkblende- (ZB) und hexagonalen Wurtzit- (WZ) Kristallstrukturen einfach durch Änderung der Konzentration von ME synthetisiert werden. Die vorliegende Untersuchung zeigt also, dass sowohl die Kristallphase als auch die Größe durch ein einfaches chemisches Verfahren gesteuert werden können.
