La Colección Rabobank de fotografía argentina se gestó con la idea de formar un conjunto de obras que abarcara desde los primeros fotógrafos de la modernidad hasta los contemporáneos, basada en dos criterios: que se tratase de fotografías directas, y que estuvieran referidas a la Argentina. Por eso decidimos centrarnos en la mirada del fotógrafo, es decir, en aquellos autores que decidieron fotografiar la realidad circundante, con un estilo que podríamos llamar documental, desde su propio criterio estético. El segundo aspecto que nos planteamos fue que todas las fotos estuvieran referidas a la Argentina, aún como metáforas y con ciertas licencias. En este sentido, la Colección Rabobank abarca paisajes y distintas manifestaciones de la realidad cultural del país y su gente. Los paisajes naturales nos muestran un país rico y diverso, que abarca climas tropicales y zonas heladas, desde la cordillera de los Andes hasta la Mesopotamia, y la inmensa llanura: hemos intentado que esta diversidad estuviese representada en la Colección. El tema humano prevalece en la Colección, tanto en tomas que muestran gente de muy diferentes latitudes en sus respectivos entornos, como en retratos intimistas de algunos exponentes referenciales de nuestra vida cultural: el retrato ha sido tradicionalmente un gran tema en la fotografía argentina, y muchos fotógrafos han encontrado en este género el modo de expresar su visión del mundo. La fotografía de acento social está también muy presente en la Colección. Este recorrido por la Fotografía Argentina muestra una serie de imágenes que muestran el país desde distintos puntos de vista, a lo largo de 90 años, y el conjunto adquiere una dimensión que excede las obras que la integran.
