Ochre top edge and endpapers. Original price of $8.95 on front flap. "Faulkner's third novel-which, with the author's reluctant consent, was published in 1929 in a shortened version as Sartoris- was called by him Flags in the Dust. It is here published in a text based on an original typewritten version that the author retained along with an earlier handwritten copy, which has been used in correcting errors or ambiguities in the typed copy. As Douglas Day, the editor, points out in his introduction, Faulkner "Believed that this would be the book that would make his name as a writer." (Publisher). Dustjacket and binding with minor wear / fine condition. Very light damp-staining at foredge block.
