Diese Grabrede, gehalten von Pastor David Müslin, "erster Helfer am Münster" und Autor von zahlreichen publizierten Predigten (HBLS), galt einem prominenten Opfer des "Stecklikriegs" von 1802. Napoleon zog im Sommer 1802 die französischen Truppen aus der von ihm 1798 den Schweizern aufgezwungenen Helvetischen Republik ab. Kurz darauf brachen an verschiedenen Orten Aufstände gegen das verhasste Regime aus, die zur Vertreibung der Helvetischen Regierung aus Bern (18.9.) und zu ihrer militärischen Niederlage führte (3.10. in Faoug). Dies nahm Napoleon in einem wohlüberlegten Schachzug zum Anlass, die Schweiz wieder zu besetzen, in der Rolle des Vermittlers aufzutreten und ihr die Mediationsakte zu verordnen. Dieses Pamphlet wurde also nach der Befreiung, aber noch vor dem kampflosen Wiedereinmarsch der franz. Truppen ein paar Wochen später gedruckt und in Umlauf gebracht. Der Verstorbene war Sigmund-Rudolf von Werdt (1781 - 1802), Angehöriger einer der wichtigsten Berner Patrizierfamilien und Leutenant der Vorhut der föderierten Truppen, die Bern befreiten. Er fiel am 18. September. Mit Bleistift wurde auf dem Titelblatt ergänzt, dass er bei der Einnahme Berns vor dem untern Tor erschossen wurde.
