The wraps are in very good condition (tiny spot on front cover, crease on back cover). 10 ¾ x 8 ¼, 108 pages, 12 ounces.XX [From the introduction] The Fort Sumner area, from Yeso Creek to Taiban Spring and Puerto de Luna on the Pecos River to Cibola Creek, has a diverse, rich and longtime heritage of regional, state and national significance. Found across this landscape in the historic past were Plains Apache, Comanche, Comanchero, and Cibolero trails and camps; Hispanos and their sheep and cattle herds, then later villages; Fort Sumner soldiers and Mescalero-Navajo captives; Anglo ranchers, cowboys, farmers, and outlaws; Hispano and Anglo homesteaders and railroaders; and many others. This heritage is manifested in numerous late prehistoric and historic archaeological sites, historic structures, the collective memories of many old timers (women and men), 3 area museums, the archives of the Public Library, and the landscape - river, lakes, springs, soils, plants, and animals. And this legacy is unique to the nation due to the long timeframe of more than 460 years, the mix of cultures Native American (Pueblo, Comanche, Apache, and Navajo), Hispanic (Spanish, Mexican, Portuguese), and Anglo (Italian, Scottish, German, Welsh, French, English etc.), four different Fort Summers, and extraordinary events.
