De bundel bevat vijf afzonderlijke bijdragen die elk een eigen benadering van het kerstthema bieden. "Het kerstverhaal der evangeliën" door J. Eijckeler presenteert een hervertelling van het bijbelse kerstverhaal in een toegankelijke en samenhangende vorm. In "Wedergeboorte van Christus op aarde" onderzoekt Gerard Walschap op beschouwende wijze de actuele betekenis van de incarnatie in de moderne wereld. Ernest Claes brengt met "Drie koningen uit het Oosten" een verhalende en volkse interpretatie van het epifaniemotief. B.H. Molkenboer behandelt in "Vondel's kerstspel" de literaire en religieuze betekenis van het werk van Joost van den Vondel binnen de kersttraditie. Ten slotte biedt D.L. Daalder met "Drie kerstfeesten" een reflectie op de historische en culturele ontwikkeling van kerstvieringen. De bundel vormt aldus een thematisch samenhangend geheel waarin religie, literatuur en cultuurhistorie samenkomen, ondersteund door illustraties die de feestelijke en contemplatieve sfeer versterken. Gerard Walschap (1898-1989) was een van de belangrijkste Vlaamse auteurs van de twintigste eeuw en verwierf bekendheid met zijn psychologisch-realistische romans en kritische reflecties op religie en maatschappij. Ernest Claes (1885-1968) staat bekend om zijn toegankelijke en volkse vertelstijl, waarin het Vlaamse dorpsleven centraal staat. J. Eijckeler, B.H. Molkenboer en D.L.
