Book block clean front and back. Text body clean. Spine intact. Over-all a great and neat copy. When the aeroplane was invented, the world, almost over-night, became smaller. The once-formidable barriers, created by deserts, ocean and mountain ranges, now slipped effortlessly beneath fragile wings, just as man always dreamed, they would. In Western Australia, Maj. Norman Brearly was determined to prove that aviation was the answer to the State's terrible problem with distance. Fresh from world War I, where he had served with great distinction with the RAF, he threw himself into the task aeroplane offered a safe and reliable means of transport. It was Brearley who, in 1919, formed the Australian Areo Club, west Australian section, though it was another ten years before the Club was finally incorporated. "Wings of Change" traces the course of what is now called the Royal Aero Club of Western Australia. In 1999, the Club celebrates its 70th anniversary, recognised as one the biggest aviation clubs in the world. It was not always so; there are staff and members who recall only vividly the days when the disgrace of bankruptcy beckoned with an urgency that seemed irresistible.
