His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Culbertson, a great showman, was widely regarded as "the man who made contract bridge", of which author Ian Fleming was a keen student and player. His novel Moonraker (1955), features the now-famous Bridge game where Drax and Meyer play Bond and M at Blades, where Bond deploys 'The Culbertson Hand'. See Gilbert, Section L.
