Quarto [29 cm] Rust colored cloth covered boards with a blind stamped title on the spine, and a gilt stamped title and blind stamped floral and decorative designs on the front cover. Very good. The edges of the covers are very slightly bumped, rubbed and darkened. The endsheets are very lightly soiled. The bottom righ…t corner of one of the pages is creased. There is a 2 inch long closed tear in the bottom margin of this page as well. The dust jacket is in poor condition. The majority of the top half of the front panel is absent. The jacket is mildly soiled and rubbed. Besides the major loss from the front panel, there are numerous other losses from the edges. There are also a couple of long closed tears in the panels. Contact seller4-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Fine. Arguably a better artist than the more well-known Charles Dana Gibson of Gibson Girl fame, Fisher's art nouveau illustrations defined the period. This Fine condition, slightly oversized volume (7 x 9.75 inches) is the first 1907 edition by Bobbs-Merrill, per the copyright and title pages. (The Grosset… & Dunlap imprint appears on the books' spine. The logical conclusion is that Grosset bought the original boards from Bobbs-Merrill. ) This is an unusual edition, since most Grossets are not dated 1907. The book features thick, glossy paper full of poetry by Tennyson, Riley, Longfellow, Burns, Byron, and several other giants of the era. Features full-color full-page plates of women, one for each poem, 21 altogether, including the frontispiece. One plate is loose but undamaged. Included is the front cardboard plate of the books's original box, which matches the book's cover. Fisher's glorious art decorated some of the finest postcards of the era.
