Témoignage écrit en 1…946. Joseph (dit Joe ou Joë) van (ou Van) Cottom (1898-1994), fils de bouchers bruxellois, est passionné par le journalisme dès son adolescence et, en 1919, sort son premier journal "La Boxe et les Sports", qui est un échec commercial. En 1923, il lance "Le Conseiller pratique" destiné à un public féminin, et c'est également un échec. Il fonde alors "L'Echo théâtral" puis "Théâtre et Ciné". En 1924, il réalise son premier scoop, une interview de Tom Mix, cow-boy adulé des dames, après avoir débarqué dans sa chambre d'hôtel sans y avoir été invité. En 1939, il part pour les Etats-Unis pour participer au championnat du monde de la pêche au thon. Rentré en Belgique, il est nommé administrateur général de la Fédération Belge des Pêches sportives. Dès la Libération, il crée le 13 octobre 1944, avec Jean Leempoel, le magazine "Théâtre Ciné Revue", qui devient très rapidement "Ciné Revue", un hebdomadaire belge centré sur le cinéma américain qui va s'imposer en France, et qu'il va diriger jusqu'en 1981. Il retourne dès lors aux USA, devenant le premier journaliste européen à fréquenter régulièrement Hollywood, où il se lie d'amitié avec nombre de producteurs et d'acteurs, parmi les plus célèbres. "Ciné Revue" (qui deviendra en 1984 "Ciné-Télé-Revue) va disposer pendant quarante ans d'une correspondante permanente à Hollywood, Jenny Dhont dite Joan Mac Trevor qui, elle aussi, nouera des contacts suivis avec les plus grandes stars. / Etats-Unis.
