This Confederate Imprint is one of more than 100 recently acquired, most with 'Rebel Archives' stamp on the cover, indicating that these were the actual copies seized by the Union Army at the end of the Civil War. A remarkable collection.

Overall quite respectable looking, though, with no edge chips. Decent full issue of this Confederate newspaper from the capital, dated several months prior to the Confederate government's evacuation in early April… and the subsequent burning and occupation by Union troops. Typical late war news. Some wear issues, but easily legible and quite "handleable" -- very uncommon in any condition. Southern newspapers were generally printed on inferior quality paper, hence usually exhibit more age toning than their Northern counterparts.

Pa…ges slightly toned from age, but overall very good. The Appendix of the Secret Session is where the state states "[the people of Virginia] do further declare that said constitution of the United States of America is no longer binding on any of the citizens of this state." It goes on to establish a Virginia Army and Navy and outline the laws of the state government. By April of 1861, the 7 southernmost states had already seceded from the Union. It was not until Fort Sumpter in April that Virginia officially seceded -- this publication is the official enactment and publication of that secession, printed that same year.
