Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good +. First British Edition. This slim, 64-page, 6 1/2" X 8 3/4" offering in VG/G+ condition is Loch Lomond: The Trossachs and Loch Katrine , Described by W.D. Cocker, and published by Blackie & Son Limited in, I'm guessing, the 1950's. It has that look and the pages have… yellowed. A volume in the publishers' Our Beautiful Homeland series, this is not an ex-library copy. This book is practically like new, physically, but does show some modest yellowing of its pages, and evidenced some random underlining, all in pencil, on maybe 5-10 pages total, which I went in and erased/eliminated(I think I got it all). The dust jacket shows some shelf wear, primarily at top and bottom edges of jacket spine, as well as in spots along top edge of jacket front cover. Bottom corner of front inside jacket flap has been price clipped, too. The TRUE STARS of this offering are the eight(8) full-page plates in color, from paintings by W. Douglas Macleod, beginning with the book's Frontispiece. Speaking of artwork, the front paste down and loose end pages are spanned by an extremely detailed map of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs (Reproduced from the Ordnance Survey Map, with the Sanction of the Controller of H.M. Stationery Office), which is then duplicated on the same two corresponding pages in rear of volume. From back jacket cover, " An entirely new[at that time, of course] series describing famous beauty-spots in England and Scotland. The books have been illustrated by distinguished artists and written by well-known authorities in their particular [geographical] areas. Each book contains eight reproductions of original paintings in full color". For natives, or for those who have come to love this often rugged, but undeniably beautiful country, this offering will be most attractive reading. Thank you very much. W. Douglas Macleod (illustrator).
