Condition: Fine. New York, December 5, 1900., 1900. Fine. - Over 35 words penned in blue ink on 7-7/8 inch high by 4-5/8 inch wide "The Century Co. New York" stationery. Likely referring to Major James B. Pond's book "Eccentricities of Genius", the publisher playfully writes "Will bet two more that my name is not in the book and two more that my nose is - you have simply spoiled a sale and I am glad of it. Your grateful friend George H. Hazen". Folded for mailing, else fine. The American publisher George H. Hazen (1858-1934) was the chairman of the board of the Crowell Publishing Company and a trustee of The Century Co. He was also a director of P.F. Collier & Son as well as several other corporations.
