Manuscript / Paper Collectible First Edition
Pamphlet. This is not a book. An original brochure from the Neuberger Museum of Art, State University of New York at Purchase, on the monumental work by Cleve Gray titled Threnody (1973-74.) Threnody, a 250-foot-wide site-specific painting, was commissioned for the opening of the Neuberger Museum in 1973 and is now part of their permanent collection. Amongst the most important mural series in post-war American art, it represented the artist's response to the tragedy of the Vietnam War and the loss of life on both sides of that conflict. The brochure reprints Cleve's 1975 statement on the inspiration and making of the work along with photographs by Thomas Costagliola of the artist at work and a brief bio. C-fold pamphlet; 6 pages; 6 b&w illustrations; 4.75 x 11 inches. Condition: Good+ pamphlet with creases and light soiling to the front. Will be sandwiched securely between stiff layers of cardboard and shipped the next business day.
