The recipient Zella Markee, nee Haskins (1906-1982) was from Southern California. "I was fortunate enough to succeed my father as head of the law firm, and in this capacity I have endeavored to follow his example, and to make the lawyers who have come into the office since his death feel that they are part of the office family. This book is written for our office family, It is not for sale or for public distribution" (Foreword, ix). This book is a primary source for anyone researching the history of O'Melveny & Myers and its role in the development of the legal and business landscape of Los Angeles.
