Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Illustrated. Original full calf binding with embossed decorations on boards and gilt decorations on spine. Reading copy with heavy wear: leather is extremely scuffed, worn, and cracked, corners are exposed, hinges are cracked and stitching is exposed, spine is mostly loose. Marbled endpapers in blue,…brown, and cream, and marble page-edges in faded blue, yellow, and orange. Pages are lightly foxed, and pages close to the covers fairly dirty. Interior pages in much better condition. Frontispiece depicts Louis Phillip I, King of the French. Title continues: "to which is added, a sketch of the late revolutions in Greece, Poland, Belgium, and France (1820), by J. Barrett, M.D., with a comprehensive account of the revolutions in France, Italy, and the German States in 1848." Hardcover, acceptable condition. 736 pages, octavo.

EMBELLISHED WITH ENGRAVINGS. Paged as i-viii, 13-280, 3-10, [missing 11-12], 13-382, [missing 383-384], 385-389. Hardcover; H 19cm x L 11.75cm. Original full calf leather binding; boards well rubbed and scuffed with corners bumped and worn, spine ends worn as well with scuffing lengthwise along joints; boards decorated with thin-ruled gilt stamped borders which are now dulled with some losses and flaking; surface creasing lengthwise to spine with dulled gilt decoration to four compartments with are delineated by horizontal bars (but not raised bands); spine's gilt title lettering still legible. Large swath of surface peeling to marbled front pastedown; matching marbled front free endpaper missing as is a flyleaf or two; rear marbled endpapers still present. First leaf present is Volume I's title/copyright. Strong toning at edges of several initial leaves; lighter toning to edges of other leaves with mostly mild foxing and toning throughout but with occasional strong occurrences of both; several quires pulled; some shallow chipping and/or creasing at page corners; light moisture stains on rear leaves; old pencil notations on rear flyleaf verso. Unpaged b/w plates interspersed amongst text. Volume II lacking top two-fifths of frontispiece plate and without formal title page as first leaf is pages 3-4; large loss to Vol. II's pages 45-46 with more than bottom half of plate between pages 132-133 missing. A poor copy but still a serviceable antiquarian volume.

It was published in 1959, the year of the first graduating class from the academy. This was an instructional text used to teach basic legal principles to cadets, such as contracts,… torts, criminal law, international law, etc. It is in very good condition, with very little wear. The pages have browned slightly, with some creasing and just a few minor marks. Wear on spine and marks on cover of Volume 2 (see photos).
