Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 1st ed., 3rd printing ; 30 pages ; illustrations by Cheng Shifa ; paper wrappers ; Cheng Shifa 程十髮 was a Chinese calligrapher, painter, and cartoonist. Cheng was born in a small Chinese village outside the city of Shanghai in 1921, in modern Fengjing township. He originally studied medicine before deciding to focus on art. He graduated from Shanghai Art College in 1941. He initially gained attention for illustrating short stories for Lu Xun. ; "哪吒闹海 Ne zha nao hai [Nehza Conquers the Dragon King; Nehza is in the Sea]" is a traditional ancient Chinese myth that recounts the conflict between the youth Nezha and the Dragon King of the East Sea, as well as his complicated relationship with his father; the story blends rich religious imagery with folklore. while bathing in the East Sea, Nezha kills the Yaksha Li Gen and the Third Prince Ao Bing, extracting Ao Bing's dragon tendon and provoking the Dragon King's fury. To avoid implicating his parents, Nezha commits suicide by "stripping away his flesh and bones to return them to his parents," later reconstructing his body from a lotus. After his resurrection, Nezha briefly pursues his father, Li Jing, with the intent to kill him, but the two eventually reconcile. ; slight corner crease to back pages, else VG. Book.…
