Detaily nadhernych oken se stridaji s dvoustrankovymi celkovymi pohledy. Romanska architektura nam zanechala skvela svedectvi - jejich prikladem budiz Vezelay. Priznacne pro ne bylo to, ze tihu klenby nesly silne zdi. Nasledkem toho nebylo mozno postavit prilis vysoke klenby ani prolomit velka okna.Teprve vynalez krizove zebrove klenby a operneho systemu umoznil stavet vzdusne a clenite goticke stavby. Klenebni pole strednich lodi rostla az do vyse 37 metru. Lancetova a sdruzena okna vyvolavala nadherne svetelne efekty.Uchvatne tvare vyraznych soch svedcily o jistote, ze Kristus prijde, aby soudil svet, zive i mrtve. Mela byt prokazana slabost kacirskych uceni, aby zbloudili verici byli privedeni zpet na cestu pravou.A tak tvorily katedraly v prubehu staleti ostrovy v mori nabozenskych nepokoju a pochybnosti. Jeste stale nabizeji lidstvu nadherny, utesny obraz a pripominaji nam ducha a dustojnost minulych dob.
