Color pictorial covers rubbed with some scratching and creasing; slight scuffing at covers' edges and at spine ends. Light toning to text block edges; light foxing…to top edge of rear b/w plate section. Past owner's ink signature on front free endpaper; a few foxing spots to leaves but otherwise quite clean; short tears and crease at bottom margins of pages 139-142. Blue tissue guard sheet between aforementioned two color plates has strong lines from past owner's folds. Binding is firm. Employed with the U.S. State Department, Charles Nelson Spinks enjoyed assignments in the Far East for many years where he earned a reputation as a authority on Asian art, particularly that of Japan and Thailand. Spinks' collections of Japanese Ukiyo-e prints and sugoroku board games, amassed between the 1930s to 1970s, are held by American University in Washington, D.C. {DecArtsShelf#1|CVA-00091}.
