M., born Agnes M. Freehan in St. Louis (1878 - ) who was the author of a few books of juvenile fiction in the "Mary Selwen" series. This was her first book. She published a sequel to this book in 1917 titled "The Quest of Mary Selwen." She was affliated with the St. Patrick's Academy in Chicago, a Catholic grammar school that was founded by the Sister's of Mercy in 1883. This copy is in very nice condition in the original publisher's green decorated cloth covers. There are no internal or external markings. The dust jacket features a pictorial representaion of the book's frontis illustration (which was done by Charles Chambers) with the title on top and a list of the publisher's juvenile books on the rear panel. There is a bit of edgewear, but overall, a very nice, presentable jacket. The dust jacket is now in a protective, removable, acetate cover. This uncommon book's condition is in very nice condition.
