First edition, thus, of this rare nautical and marine supply catalogue issued by th…e famed New York marine hardware supply firm, which had rebuilt their warehouse and retail business after a fire in 1898. This company which was founded in 1879 sold gear, rope, whistles, life preservers, upholstery, compasses, capstans, binnacles, windlasses, propellers, anchors, flags, pennants, ship furniture and fittings, supplying anchors, boat chains, catches, stern bearings, bow chocks, compasses, binnacles, grommets, cordage, wire, anchors, logging thimbles, fish gaffs, lights, oars, windlasses, rowlocks, and much more. Charles Durkee (1862-1930) was known as the "Tiffany of the Trade," revered as one of the finest outfitters of motorboat and ship equipment in the country, even supplying the equipment for the construction of the Panama Canal from 1904 to 1914. Durkee sold most of his shares in 1918, and died in 1930 after losing most of his investments in the 1929 stock market crash.
