The fifth edition of this work in the original moire silk binding. Ink inscription to the first blank page, dated 1882. Marie Pape-Carpantier (18151878) was a French educator who revolutionised education in French schools. She worked hard to alleviate poverty and social injustice, and to encourage female education. This work contains a collection of her stories, providing lessons for children. Illustrated throughout by Bertall, otherwise known as Charles Albert d'Arnoux (1820-1882). In the original moire silk binding. Externally, bumped to the extremities with shelf wear to the boards and spine. A couple of small losses to the silk of the head and tail of the spine. Die Ausgabe erschien ursprünglich in broschierten Lieferungen mit einer Umschlagillustration, die bei gebundenen Exemplaren nur selten erhalten ist, in unserem Fall jedoch jeweils auf den vorderen Innendeckel montiert wurde.
