Chambers, better known by her maiden name Fanny Munsell (1884-1920), was a prom…inent American illustrator recognized for her exquisite tonal control and influential art instruction. She is historically celebrated not only for her magazine work but as the primary teacher and first wife of the renowned illustrator Charles Edward Chambers. Munsell trained and taught in Chicago, where she met her future husband, Charles Edward Chambers. She became his mentor, heavily influencing his early stylistic approach and technique before they married. She was a highly accomplished artist in her own right, contributing illustrations to major national publications during the early 20th century, including Cosmopolitan and Woman's Home Companion. Unfortunately, her career was cut short when she died prematurely at the age of 36. ; Gulielma died at Age 61, she was the daughter of Jeremiah & Elizabeth Randall Zollinger. She was an Author and her first story was published at age 14, "The Widow O'Callaghan's Boys"; Other books she wrote was "Maggie McLanehan"; "A Boy's Ride" & "The Rout of the Foreigner." She declined her diploma from Newton High School in 1875. ; "In addition to being a prolific contributor to many magazines, she has written five books that have placed her name high among literary people in America - and especially among the writers of the middle west. Her first literary effort was "Ray Drummond" and later she wrote "The Widow O'Callahan's Boys," which has been admittedly her most popular work and the best seller. In 1901 she wrote Maggie McLanahan" and in 1909 she wrote "A Boy' Ride." In 1910, she published "The Rout of the Foreigner" - the first of a series of historical novels which she had planned all during her life, but which she was forced to leave unfinished by reason of failing health. Her works were published by A. C. McClurg & Co., of Chicago, one of the largest book publishers of the country. Miss Zollinger had always enjoyed a splendid income from her works. She did her early writing under the nom de plume of William Vachary Gladwin, but of late years has used her own name in all work. Previous to her last work -"The Rouse of the Foreigner" - Miss Zollinger and her mother made an extended trip to Europe for the purposes of gathering information and a general foundation for her contemplated historical novels. She spent many months in England and Scotland. Her library contains copious notes and data which would soon have been woven into prose fiction."-- 1917-08-24 ; "It was the last of May in the north of England, in the year 1209. A very different England from what any boy of to-day has seen. A chilly east wind was blowing. The trees of the vast forests were all in leaf but the ash trees, and they were unfolding their buds. And along a bridle-path a few miles southwest of York a lad of fourteen was riding, while behind him followed a handsome deerhound. A boy of fourteen, at that age of the world, was an older and more important personage than he is to-day. If he were well-born he had, generally, by this time, served his time as a page and was become an esquire in the train of some noble lord. That this lad had not done so was because his uncle, a prior in whose charge he had been reared since the early death of his parents, had designed him for a priest." ;1918 text on half-title discussing the book ; else FINE.
