[iv] + 90 sid. + 12 planscher i ljustryck. / With Summary in English, "The Skokloster Shield" (11 pp.). - - - "The pageant shield which has of old belonged to the collections in Skokloster Castle near Uppsala is perhaps less famed than its twin shield, called the Emperor Charles V's shield in Vienna, but has nevertheless been often mentioned in the literature of the history of arm. We find expressed therein an opinion that it has been mutilated. This is incorrect; it is much better preserved than the Vienna shield, which is nevertheless considered among the most renowned works of the armourer's art. A special publication on the Skokloster shield must for this reason appear to be justified. The late Baron Rudolf Cederström, formerly Keeper of the Royal Armoury at Stockholm, had planned such a publication in 1924, but the great difficulty experienced in attaining definite results put a stop to his work. Chap. I in this present work follows, in the main, the manuscript which he had completed. The four additional chapters have been written by Karl Erik Steneberg, Ph. Lic. Certain data in Chaps. III och IV follow the valuable comparative material which Cederström collected during his travels for purposes of study, and mention must be made of his unpublished new identifications of the earlier so-called Heinrich Cnoep-armours in Stockholm and Dresden".
