"Einer der spätesten Reformatoren der Achsenzugzange, Carl Breus (1842-1914), stellte sich "in schroffe Opposition zu Tarnier. . Die Geburtszange von Breus entstand aus der Motivation, die Tarniersche Achsenzugzange weiter zu entwickeln. Er stellte seine Achsenzugzange 1882 im Archiv für Gynäkologie vor. Da Breus ebenfalls die Notwendigkeit anerkannte, dem kindlichen Kopfe im Geburtskanal mehr Bewegungsspielraum zu lassen, ist seine Zange gebrochen, d.h. es sind bei seiner Zange Löffel und Zangengriffe durch ein plattes Gelenk miteinander verbunden, und die Zangengriffe dienen bei seinem Modell wie bei herkömmlichen Zangen der Traktion. Um die Löffel beim Anlegen an den kindlichen Kopf im Gelenk fixieren zu können, sind sie gebogen und parallel zu den Griffen verlängert; sie enden in einer Öse durch die sich ein Stift zur Verbindungbeider Löffelverlängerungen schieben lässt. In den Grundelementen Griff und Schlossgegend ist die Breussche Zange an die Wiener Schulzange nach Simpson-Braun (entwickelt ca. 1855) angelehnt: die Einkerbungen im Hartgummigriff sind nach Brünninghausen (1761 - 1834) zum bessern Halt bei der Traktion, die Zughaken von D.W.H. Busch, sie hat ein Smelliesches Schloss und die charakteristischen Schenkel im Halsteil der Zange, die zur Dammschonung vom Schloss weg auseinanderweichen sind nach Aitken/Evans."
