Bell'esemplare genuino di questa opera molto RARA (nessun esemplare censito nelle biblioteche Sbn) dell'astronomo italiano che, in contemporanea con Le Verrier, intuì l'esistenza di un altro pianeta terrestre (Plutone) dalle orbite anomale di Urano. Calandrelli (1792-1866) fu nominato direttore dell'osservatorio e professore di astronomia e ottica nell'Università di Bologna a partire dal 1845. Nella Memoria Sul pianeta Urano, si discutevano le caratteristiche fisiche e le anomalie orbitali del pianeta, citando favorevolmente la tesi che in tali anomalie vedevano l'influsso gravitazionale di un pianeta esterno ancora sconosciuto. Poco dopo il Le Verrier presentava all'Accademia delle scienze di Parigi le due ben note memorie dimostranti matematicamente l'esistenza e le caratteristiche del corpo perturbatore, cosicché nell'edizione a stampa del suo scritto (Bologna 1847) il C. accettò pienamente i risultati del Le Verrier."
