Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition, Illustrated Edition. 1906 The Child's Life of Jesus, C M Steedman, with 30 Colour Plates by Paul Woodroffe. Published undated in London by T. C and E. C. Jack, this is the first edition from 1906 (identified as such by the date of the preface), and does present well: clean and well preserved, with no ownership names or inscriptions, and a solid, secure binding. This heavy, attractive book is bound in the original cloth with elaborate gilt decoration and lettering to front, rear, and spine and a tipped-in picture of the Child Jesus to the front board. The pages are rough cut and the publisher's gilt top edge remains (but a little dulled by the passage of time). Wear to the external boards is light, which makes this book an appealing one to encounter. In very good condition overall with modest antique wear - much lighter than usual. The pages within are in excellent, clean and tidy order, with just a little very occasional pale foxing to the margins, though nothing much to speak of. The captioned full page colour plates lend much appeal to this handsome, solid, and hefty book, and it is nice to encounter in its first edition, from the Edwardian era. Dimensions: approx. 17cm x 24cm. Paul Woodroffe (illustrator).
