De l'autre, un hebdomadaire illustré, créé par Gaston Gallimard " pour lutter contre les idées toutes faites et les pouvoirs établis ", et dans lequel l'artiste danois eut toute latitude pour dénoncer avec force et talent les fascismes européens, et plus particulièrement le nazisme en la personne d'Hitler. Cette prise de position n'était pas sans risque. En 1933, le montage où figure le führer en King Kong fait interdire l'hebdomadaire en Allemagne, et en 1940, quand les Allemands envahissent Paris, les locaux de la rédaction du journal sont détruits. Mais dans l'intervalle, Marinus aura réussi, à coups de ciseaux et de colle, à ridiculiser les dictateurs de tous bords et à dresser un tableau sans concessions de l'Europe de ces années-là. En rassemblant pour la première fois soixante de ces photomontages ainsi que leur analyse, cet ouvrage rend hommage au courage, à l'humour et à l'audace d'un artiste confronté à un monde ravagé par la guerre, et il peut être lu comme un testament photographique à la fois sinistre et génial de la résistance contre la domination allemande.
