Forty resource persons were used for data collection within Maiduguri Metropolitan. One hundred and fifty Kanuri idioms were collected interpreted and analyses based on the functional theory of Halliday as a theoretical framework. The work reveals that Kanuri idioms have three functional roles: informative affective and moral. Each role is presented in a tabular form. Kanuri idioms were classified base on the above three functions. The data is expressed in number and percentages.
