Unter der "Reymannschen Specialkarte" versteht man eine Folge von detaillierten Einzelkarten zunächst von Deutschland und später vom ganzen mitteleuropäischen Raum im Maßstab von ca. 1 : 200.000 [1 : 199.028,972]. Sie geht auf Gottlob Daniel Reymann zurück, der als preußischer Ingenieurgeograph und Plankammerinspektor 1806 die ersten 6 Blätter (Wieck, Arcona, Stralsund, Bergen, Demmin und Anklam) mit der dem Gesamtwerk zugrunde liegenden Netzeinteilung herausgab, und hieß zunächst "Special-Karte von Deutschland". Bis zu seinem Tode 1837 erschienen 139 Blätter. (Ab 1821 unter der Redaktion von Heinrich Berghaus). Danach übernahm Carl Wilhelm von Oesfeld die Bearbeitung, ehe die Karte 1844 an den Verlag Flemming in Glogau verkauft und von Friedrich Handtke weitergeführt wurde. Die ursprünglich nur für Deutschland geplante Karte wurde im gleichen Jahr von Grodno bis Paris ausgedehnt und von 342 auf 462 Sektionen vermehrt, und hieß ab da "Special-Karte von Deutschland und den angrenzenden Staaten". Der preußische Generalstab erwarb dann 1874 das Werk, welches mittlerweile "Special-Karte von Central-Europa" hieß. Das zunächst auf 342 Rechteckblätter von 34 cm x 23 cm (ca. 46 x 68 km) konzipierte Kartenwerk erfaßte schließlich auf 529 Blättern (geplant 796) über 1 Million qkm von Mitteleuropa. Die Laufendhaltung des Kartenwerks endete dann 1908. Dieses Kartenwerk ist somit eines der größten topographischen Unternehmungen der damaligen Zeit gewesen. Die Karten sind in der Regel in Kupferstiche einfarbig schwarz gedruckt, die Darstellung der Grenzen als Handkolorit ausgeführt.
