Illustrated throughout with high-quality color photographs and reproductions from the Royal Collection, the text explains the symbolism, ceremonial use, and historical development of these objects within the coronation traditions of the British monarchy. Photographs include coronation imagery of Queen Elizabeth II, royal orders and robes, and detailed images of regalia dating from the Restoration through the twentieth century. Published by the Department of the Environment, Royal Parks & Palaces, which administered the Tower of London and other royal historic sites during the period, the book was designed by 3D Communication, with colour origination by Gilchrist Brothers Ltd., and printed in England by Balding & Mansell Ltd. The copyright page notes © Crown Copyright 1986, with this copy clearly marked 'Reprinted 1988.' Drawing on his role within the Tower's administration, he produced accessible historical guides explaining the regalia, ceremonial traditions, and history of the British monarchy for visitors to the Jewel House. His works remain widely used introductory references on the Crown Jewels.
