Soft cover. Condition: Good. 3rd Edition. First paperback edition from 1974, originally published in 1930. Orange pictorial wrappers with black lettering on cover and spine. Moderate shelf wear and creasing; small abrasion near tail of spine; mild soiling. Perfect binding is tight. Interior is clean. Includes a frontispiece and a small section of black-and-white photos and illustrations on plates. William H. Brewer was the field leader for the Whitney Survey of California from 1860 to 1864. During that time, he wrote many letters to his family, which are compiled in this book.
