Die 1920er-Jahre sahen eine Vielzahl von Elektrolokomotivbaureihen, mit denen man sich an die 'Bahnreife' dieser Technik herantastete. Große Stückzahlen wurden nicht gebaut, schon allein, weil die elektrifizierten Strecken noch nicht sehr z…ahlreich waren. Manche BR entstand gar 'maßgeschneidert' für die jeweilige Strecke. Durch die Rückschläge des Zweiten Weltkrieges, aber auch durch die 40jährige Abschreibungsfrist von Schienenfahrzeugen bedingt, blieben diese Veteranen tlw. noch bis in die 1970er-Jahre hinein im Einsatz.
