This volume comprises his moral essays previously written in Stalbridge and Oxford, drawing his observations on angling, horses, astronomy, glowworms, sun dials, flowers, rivers and more. The work was ridiculed by Swift in Meditation Upon a Broomstick and by Butler in An Occasional Reflection on Dr Charlton's Feeling a Dog's Pulse at Gresham College. In a contemporary full tree calf binding, with gilt to the spine. Externally, front joint is strained. Rear joint is tender. Rubbing resulting in slight loss to the head of the spine.
