Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: very good. First Edition. Octavo, 2 volumes, illustrated. Eah volume with an Introduction by Civil War historian and bibliographer Allan Nevins. Both volumes fine in the publisher's blue and red cloth, respectively. The dust jackets were LAMINATED by the previous owner, which has protected them from wear, but is not easily reversible. Thus very good. Samuel P. Boyer was an Assistant Surgeon in the American Navy during the Civil War. His diary, recounting years of blockading southern ports and the life of sailors on board warships, is an important primary source. After the war, he joined the Asiatic Fleet, where he was present in Japan during the Meiji Restoration, a process also covered in his diaries herein. The two volumes were sold separately, so are not typcally found together.…
