Het betreft Marie Koenen, Titus Brandsma, Jos Panhuijsen, Godfried Bomans, Gerard Reve, Lucebert, Henri Nouwen, Frans Kellendonk, Willem Jan Otten en Vonne van der Meer. Ze werden geboren tussen 1879 en 1952. He…t begin van deze periode was de tijd van het Rijke Roomse Leven. Geloof was vanzelfsprekend. In 1952 was dat niet veel anders, al voorspelden de tekenen van de tijd een andere toekomst. De pennenvruchten van de geportretteerde literatoren illustreren hoe in een periode van honderd jaar inderdaad van alles verschoof en anders werd. Er is sprake van vertrouwde geloofszekerheid maar ook gegroeide twijfel en scherpe kritiek, waarbij God soms verworpen werd maar toch nooit ver weg was. De literatoren proefden en proeven in hun literaire werk Gods aanwezigheid in de werkelijkheid van het menselijk leven. Vandaar de titel van de bundel: Gods letterproeverij. De bijdragen in deze bundel zijn van Inigo Bocken, Hein Blommestijn, Liesbeth Eugelink, Johan Goud, Theo Salemink, Marcel Sarot, Hans van Stralen, G?
